A Reflective May Note on My People

Dear Kreative community,

May is a very special month; it’s a month of mothers, memory, legacy, love, and the quiet strength that raised me. A month of mothers and grandmothers, of family threads, of the people who shaped my hands and my heart. It’s a month of blooming, but also a month of remembering. A month where I feel the presence of the people who taught me how to love, how to create, how to be myself.

This year, I wanted to honor each of them: the ones who steadied me, inspired me, raised me, and walked beside me. May is their month as much as it is mine.

My Husband — My Quiet Strength

My husband is the steady warmth in my life. My soulmate. My quiet strength. The one who brought me back to faith and family when I didn’t even know how much I needed it. He is my adventure, my answered prayer, my reminder that love can be both gentle and brave. Our wedding song was “God Blessed the Broken Road,” and it fit us exactly. Every twist, every turn, every hard moment led me to him. He is the grounding presence in my world, the soft place I land, the love that steadies my hands when I create.

My May Niece — My First Niece, My Godchild, My Mini Me

She was the first little one to call me aunt. My first niece. My godchild. My mini me in every way that matters. I taught her to crochet the way my grandmother taught me, and now she makes the sweetest amigurumi (tiny creatures full of charm and personality) pieces I proudly sell at craft shows. Watching her create feels like watching a piece of myself bloom in someone else’s hands. She carries my spark, my humor, my creativity. She is a reminder that legacy can be soft and joyful and passed down one stitch at a time.

My May Nephew — Kind, Funny, Compassionate

My nephew is pure heart. Kind, funny, compassionate, full of curiosity and sweetness. He loves video games and dinosaurs, and he brings bright, playful energy into every room. There is something so gentle about him, something that makes me want to protect his softness and celebrate his spark. He reminds me that joy can be simple, that laughter can be healing, and that love can look like a small hand in yours, asking questions about the world, or showing you a new way to look at the time we’ve shared.

My Mother — My Calm in the Storm

My mother is my quiet strength, my calm in the storm. She is fun and funny and a spitfire in her own right. She inspires me to be better, to do better, to love harder. She is the woman I strive to be: steady, loving, resilient, full of warmth and humor. She taught me how to stand tall and how to soften. She is the heartbeat of May, and my life.

My Sister — The Bringer of New Life

My sister brought three beautiful children into this world, and in doing so, she created another part of my life that I can’t imagine living without. She inspires me with her strength, her motherhood, and her presence. She is a reminder that family grows in unexpected ways, that love expands, that life can be richer than you ever planned. She is a piece of my heart, and May feels fuller because of her.

My Grandmother — God Rest Her Soul

My grandmother taught me to crochet. Her hands shaped my hands. Her spirit shaped my spirit. She is the reason yarn feels like home to me. She is the reason I create with heart and honesty. She taught me to be myself, no matter who doesn’t like it. Even though she is gone, her presence lives in every stitch I make. She is the root of my creativity, the quiet voice that still whispers, “Be yourself, sweetheart.” May will always belong to her.

My Mother-in-Law — The Month of Mothers

My mother-in-law is one of the great additions to my life. She taught me to knit, and shares my love of yarn and color. We go to knitting retreats and the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival together; little pockets of peace and creativity that I treasure. She has been there for me in hard times, steady and kind, treating me like a daughter from the very beginning. She is proof that family can be chosen, nurtured, and woven together with love.

May is the month of my people.

The month of mothers and makers.

The month of legacy and love.

The month where I feel held by the hands that shaped me.

With handmade warmth, always

Kathryn
