Flowers Have No Gender: How I'm Making Bouquets for Everyone

June feels like a long exhale. I've been in the studio early, staying late, and loving every minute of it. This month is about celebrating: graduations, fathers, community, and identity. I want every person who walks into my booth or opens a package from me to feel seen. That's why I've expanded my bouquet bar this summer to include options for every kind of person.

Flowers are for everyone.

Always.

Why I Started Making Bouquets for Boys

My last festival showed me something I wasn't expecting. I was missing almost half of my community. I hadn't included gender-neutral or masculine items, and I watched little boys come into my booth and deflate the moment they realized there was nothing there for them. Honestly, that hurt. A lot. I gave them stickers and goodies from my blind bags, and it didn't feel like enough, because it wasn't.

When I got back to the studio, I started brainstorming. I needed to make something for everyone, not just people who gravitate toward feminine things. My first instinct went toward plushies: trucks, dinos, all the obvious choices. But that isn't me, and I have a rule I hold firmly. I won't sell or give anything I don't love. You'd be able to tell. So, I kept thinking.

And then it became clear. Boys deserve flowers. Everyone does, but especially them, because no one ever thinks of giving them flowers. They deserve the same care and intention that goes into choosing just the right stem for just the right person. That gap felt like mine to fill.

What Makes a Masculine Arrangement

Flowers for guys are simpler than people think. Start with color: deep greens and blues,

whites and creams, or a single favorite color in a monochromatic bouquet that is striking and clean. I've also started thinking about how much personality lives in foliage alone. The structural leaves and grasses in the floral world are endlessly interesting and wildly underused.

From there, reach for flowers with shape and strength. Something that stands with intention rather than drapes. The vessel matters just as much as the blooms. A coffee can, a beer bottle, a mason jar, something made of wood or metal. The right container changes the whole feeling of an arrangement.

I'll be bringing these options to craft fairs from now on, because I want people to see it for themselves. Flowers are for everyone. Always.

The biggest hit at the Herb Festival was my build-your-own bouquet section, which I'm officially calling the Bouquet Bar. Everyone came over to see what kind of bouquet they'd make for themselves or someone they love. I loved watching it: no assumptions, no steering, just people choosing stems that felt right and building something completely their own.
